A GRADE horse shall be defined as any horse that has either one or both parents unknown.

Any horse of unknown parentage that demonstrates a documented "appaloosa" coat pattern  shall be eligible for registration in the GRADE category of IPSHR.

Any horse of unknown parentage that demonstrates the acceptable characteristics of mottled skin, striped hooves, and white sclera shall be eligible for registration in the GRADE category of IPSHR.  Mottled skin shall be that which is defined by the appaloosa registries of the United States and Canada.

IPSHR encourages owners to provide all known information regarding parentage of GRADE horses and will document any known parents.

Horses suspected of Draft lineage shall be excluded from this category.  See Stonewall & Draft blood horse category.
